WE SELL ONLY FACTORY PRESSED, QUALITY CDs!

INCLUDES TWENTY-FIVE TRACKS! OVER SEVENTY MINUTES PLAYING TIME!

There has never been a CD compilation dedicated exclusively to presenting the martial- and patriotic music of Kaiser Wilhelm II’s Germany in period recordings – UNTIL NOW!

This first-ever CD compilation presents the marches, anthems, tattoos and Vaterlandslieder that animated the mighty German Reich of the Hohenzollern Emperors in the years between 1871 and 1918, with period performances by the bands of the elite guard regiments of the German Army, German soldiers’ choruses and leading classical musicians and singers of the Wilhelmian era.

Brandenburg Historica has scoured the world to locate and preserve the priceless 78rpm shellac records (featuring performances dating from 1903 to 1915) that we have assembled for this compilation. Though these extremely rare early discs date from the acoustic age of recording (that is, before the invention of electric microphones and pick-ups), they have been painstakingly restored and engineered to maximize the surprising degree of fidelity already inherent to them without altering the historical character of the material in any way. These ancient “imperial” recordings capture a unique energy and feel that are impossible to duplicate in modern performances. On this album you will hear the actual fifers, drummers, brass bands and vocalists of Imperial Germany, whose musical talents are brought to you exactly as they would have been experienced one hundred years ago in what is certain to be a valued addition to your music library!

Gott, Kaiser, Vaterland evokes powerful images of an age when the twentieth century was new; when the young and vigorous German Emperor was acclaimed by a loyal Volk as he rode in triumph through the Brandenburg Gate, resplendent in black Cuirass and gold Pickelhaube topped with the German eagle; when the kings and princes of the German Empire took the salute of an army that marched to the sounds of fifes and thundering drums and carried on its banners streamers from two centuries of military glory, won in battles from Fehrbellin to Sedan; when the peaceful and industrious German Reich stretched from Lithuania to Strassburg; when its three-stacked dreadnoughts and merchantmen, fired by Silesian coal, showed the black-white-red flag on every ocean of the world; when palm trees spread their broad fans over the remote tropical outposts of the Reich and the tallest mountain of the German Empire was not in Bavaria but in East Africa; and when the very phonograph records which preserve the sounds of this bygone world were themselves a  novel and exotic innovation.

An addition to the CD repertoire that is sure to arouse great interest among enthusiasts of German history as well as military music aficionados, the updated 2007 Edition of Gott, Kaiser, Vaterland includes a twenty-four page illustrated booklet featuring a detailed discussion of German military music in the Wilhelmian era.

Gott, Kaiser, Vaterland is the first installment of a planned, lengthy series of compilation CDs presenting archival recordings of German military music from 1900 to 1945.

Reviews of Gott, Kaiser, Vaterland . . .

A Reviewer in the December 2005 Issue of Defilé (Official Publication
of the International Military Music Society, Netherlands Branch) states ...

“The technical quality of the CD is wonderfully good, given the antiquity
of the original recordings… Many of the works are real unknowns, and that
also makes this CD something special…. In summary: an attractive production
of historical value that can certainly be recommended.”

A Reviewer in the January 2006 Issue of Mit klingendem Spiel (Official
Publication of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Militärmusik e. V.) calls
this Album...

"[A] Masterpiece ... the musical portrait of an era...”

A Reviewer in The March 2006 Issue of RVS (Official Publication
of the Robert Hoe Branch of the IMMS) tells his Readers...

"I wholeheartedly recommend this excellent CD for its music, history,
booklet and powerful sound of a long gone era."

A Reviewer in the April 2006 Issue of Band International (Journal of the
International Military Music Society) observes…

"[This] CD contains some true “delicacies,” such as the last track that
was composed by Leo Blech. He was of Jewish descent, and this is just
another example that still makes it incredibly hard for people like me
to understand what was able to go on [from] 1933 to 1945.”

A Classical Musician from Baltimore, USA is impressed…

“I was steeling myself for a scratchy and less-than-perfect recording,
but wow! What a treat!… I cannot tell you how splendid this recording really is.”

An advanced Collector of German Military Music from California, USA says...
"I have collected and compiled German and Prussian military music of all
kinds for the longest time. I have listened to thousands of tattoos,
marches, concert pieces, and so many others in recordings ranging from the
late 19th century to the early 21st century. I have never been so impressed
by anything so much as this album. Not only were so many of the pieces
presented here as incredibly important in their day as much as they are rare
in ours, and not only are some of these featured pieces here performed by
some of the most elite bands of Imperial Germany, but the clarity and
quality of these pieces is simply outstanding. The surely painstaking effort
you took in remastering and restoring these pieces is matched only by that
of the wonderfully accurate and informative booklet that you have provided
in this album. You have preserved the jewel era of German history with this
album in a very remarkable and unique way. This letter is a congratulation
on the fantastic work you have done, as well as a thanks for the enjoyment
that this album has brought me.... Thank you."

A Veteran and Great-Grandfather from Berlin, Germany had this to say...

"Congratulations. You have done a great job. The quality of the sound
is amazingly good, by far superior to many remastered recordings I
have listened to. This is a CD for the serious collector of historic
military music. I was amazed by the number of tunes and songs devoted
to the Kaiser.... While listening, I thought of my grandfather, who was
a Lt. General in the Imperial Army and my dad, who was a Cadet in the
Prussian Main Cadet School in Berlin around the beginning of the 20th
century. Thanks for alerting me to this very special CD."

A Listener from Japan says...

"I was delighted to listen to such nice CD. The incredible sound quality
and detailed booklet with many photographs enhance the value of rare
recordings. Apparently, this is the best reissue of German military band
recordings in acoustic era."

A Retired Officer of the German Federal Armed Forces stated...

"Absolutely fantastic! There are a lot of good CDs available, but this
one has a real emotional impact! It fully captures the atmosphere
and spirit of the era. The arrangement of the material presented is
outstanding, as is the sound quality…. You and your engineer are to
be complimented on a job well done!"

A Broadcaster from Maine, USA had these Comments...

"What your engineers have coaxed out of those old discs is
remarkable. This is an imaginative and excellently conceived
piece of work. I congratulate you and look forward to further
releases. Well done indeed!!!"

An Enthusiast from England is astounded by the Fidelity...

"Fantastic! How did you manage to get such excellent quality
reproduction from recordings of this early period?
I am really looking forward to your future releases..."

An Educator from South Africa had these Comments...

"[The] quality [is] outstanding, given the period in which it was
recorded. General harmony, acoustics, interpretation, "Ausfùhrung"
[and] intention of the Komponist "sind ausgezeichnet!"...
I am impressed! Keep me posted!..."

An Officer of the International Military Music Society (USA) had this to say...

"Thank you very much for the excellent CD you sent me this
past weekend...when you issue future releases, I will be glad

to help publicize them..."

A US Marine Corps Veteran from Pennsylvania, USA says...

"... I've been playing mine all afternoon. Top shelf quality, a superb,
varied selection of music, and best of all is the well-planned and
informative booklet [with] great choices of sharply-defined pictures,
especially the ones of the three Kaisers... Thanks again!!"

A Longtime Collector of Military Music from Oregon, USA was moved to say...

"I heard the CD tonight. It was spiritual music for me. I had not heard
these recordings before."

A Professor of History from Pennsylvania, USA is not disappointed ...

“The music is delightful, [and] I’ve now picked up the words to
‘Heil Dir im Siegerkranz.’”
