THE USSR DEFENSE MINISTRY BAND, MOSCOW - If it’s from Russia, it’s got to be big BIG – and this album featuring the premier military band of the Sovet Union and Russia is no exception! The one-hundred-and-fifty piece USSR Defense Ministry Band under the direction of N. Mikailov and Kh. Mukhamedzhan presents a program of Tsarist Russian, Soviet and European marches done in traditional, thundering Russian style, including: Grenadier; Hero’s March (which listeners will recognize from the “newsreel sequence” in the movie The Inner Circle); March of the Pechorsky Regiment; The Gladiator’s Farewell; Queen of the Ball; Triumph of the Victors; March of the Capital; King of the Sea; Over the Waves; The Fifth Swift March; Peacefighters; Chasseur’s March; On a Placid Lake; a Russian First World War march that still enjoys wide popularity at march pasts of the Russian armed forces today, the Slavic Woman’s Farewell; and the Freedom  March.  CD ONLY:  FSR1356 $15.00 BACKORDERED

THE BAND OF THE NEW ZEALAND ARMY – Interesting album highlighting an often overlooked military musical heritage – that of New Zealand (although the reputation for valor under fire earned wars by ANZAC forces in two world should be anything but overlooked). The Band of the New Zealand Army conducted by Major James Carson presents a program of British, American (and, incidentally, German) marches that have long been military music standards in the Anglo-Saxon world. Contents include: Blaze Away!; The Great Little Army; Old Comrades; Washington Grays; Thin Red Line; Invercargill (a piece by New Zealand composer Alex Lithgow dating from c. 1900); Dunedin (a composition by British march-king Kenneth Alford written in 1928 to commemorate his sojourn at the New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition of 1924); Sussex by the Sea; Colonel Bogey; Sons of the Brave; Gallant Hearts; Through Bolts and Bars and another Alford piece, Army of the Nile.  CD ONLY:  FSR1327 $15.00 BACKORDERED

THE BAND OF H.M. ROYAL MARINES – Twenty marches and pieces for concert band performed by one of the world’s leading military ensembles, the Band of His Majesty’s Royal Marines at Portsmouth under the dircection of Captain Peter Heming, MVO. Contents include: Washington Grays; the Russlan and Ludmila Overture from Mikhail Glinka’s opera of the same name; The Trombone King; Trumpet Tune and Air by Henry Purcell; Colossus of Columbia; Her Majesty’s Yacht Britannia; French March by Camille Saint-Saens; Cyrus the Great; Action Front; Rimsky-Korsakov’s Flight of the Bumblebee; On Parade; Broddenritt; The Melody Shop; Sharpshooters; Attorney General; a classic from Argentina, the San Lorenzo March and five others. Many recent British band CDs have been decried by listeners due to the small size of the performing ensembles.  This one won’t be - it presents that traditional “big” sound that bespeaks all the splendor and glory of a great world empire.  CD ONLY:  FSR1343  $15.00 BACKORDERED

REGIMENTAL MARCHES OF THE BRITISH ARMY, Volume II  -  Second installment in the series cataloguing the regimental marches of the British Army, with another fine performance by The Regimental Band of the Coldstream Guards under the Direction of Major TL Sharpe, MBE, and Captain RA Ridings. FORTY SIX separate selections are featured, including: Here’s A Health Unto His Majesty; Pioneer Corps; Balaclava March; Lilliburlero; The March Of the Bowmen; The 7th Royal Fusiliers; The Minden March; Old Monmouthshire; York And Lancaster; The Kingsman; The Good Comrade; and many others too numerous to list. Among the more interesting musical offerings presented in this volume are the Royal Corps of Transport’s parade march Wait for the Wagon, which enjoyed great acclaim in the American South in 1860-1861 as a “sesesh” fight song. A virtuoso performance encompassing centuries of not just British but also Western military history. CD ONLY: CH6564 $18.95 BACKORDERED
